Remember back in high school when we would go to school on the first day after summer vacation and look around for fresh new faces, hoping the best looking ones would be in our classes and that the losers would stay away? Good times. Well, the automotive world works in pretty much the same way.
Currently, the "jocks" of the class include the Audi SQ5, the BMW X3, and the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, among others. What happens, though, when an even better-looking and smoother jock invades their class? Will they accept their subordinate status and submit? Or will they try to one-up the new guy and put him in his place? I guess only time will tell.
The new guy in question is none other than Porsche’s yet-to-be-released Macan Turbo SUV. Undoubtedly carrying its older sibling’s DNA in more ways than one, the Macan is the latest offering from the German automaker that capitalizes on the popularity of mid-size sporty utility vehicles, especially its very own Cayenne SUV.
A cut above the rest in fit, finish, and finesse, the Macan Turbo will be the answer to many a car enthusiast looking for a luxury vehicle, yet one that is fun and nimble to drive, responsive to steering, and can unleash the beast when necessary. Simply put, the Porsche Macan Turbo is set out to be the complete package.
With a starting price that will obviously be lower than that of its larger stable mate – the Cayenne – more consumers will have the ability to graduate to the Porsche brand and will likely take advantage of this lower barrier of entry, and rightly so. While pricing is yet to be determined and announced, we expect it to be in the mid $40-50K range for the base version as is expected for a German luxury performance sport utility vehicle in its class.
Bottom Line: The jocks better make way for their new leader. Whether that means shining his shoes, buying him lunch, or handing over their hot girlfriends, there is no doubt that the Prom King has just transferred in. Let the battle for Prom Queen begin.
